Introduction

The city of China was created approximately in the year 1710, for pastoral service in the domains of Sergeant Major Carlos Cantú - son-in-law of Captain Alonso de León. The first buildings of the town were very close to the banks of the San Juan River. After a flood in 1805 it was decided to relocate the settlement in the place that is currently occupied by the main square. China was erected as a town in the year 1812. According to the constitution of Cádiz, a document that also governed New Spain, populations with more than a thousand inhabitants should be elevated to the category of Villa. China then had a population of 1,199 people. In 1821 the formula was sent for the Independence of the kingdom of New Spain to be sworn in accordance with the plan of Agustín de Iturbide.

In the year 1868, China would lose the El Toro ranch to form Villa de Gral. Bravo, N.L. and the current territory of the municipality of Los Herreras. In 1882 Rancho El Zacate was separated to form the municipality of Dr. Coss, also in 1912 a decree signed on December 25 would ratify the formation of the Ramones, losing China again part of its territorial extension. 4

The armed revolutionary movement of 1910 counted among its combatants distinguished Chinese such as Colonel Máximo González and his sons: he and Colonel Ramírez without counting the citizens who joined the ranks without military rank.
